This striking hand-built raku vase is alive with movement and colour. Layers of deep sienna, burnt orange, and ochre overlap in a painterly burst of energy, while fine black and red linework dances freely across the surface. The form itself is softly distorted, giving the piece a natural, organic rhythm that perfectly complements its abstract decoration.
Created from raku clay and fired to around 1000°C, the vase was removed red-hot from the kiln and cooled rapidly in combustible materials to create the characteristic smoky greys and fine crackle patterning that define the raku process. Every piece emerges from the firing completely unique — an unrepeatable collaboration between flame, air, and artist.
Ideal as a sculptural accent or as a vessel for dried or decorative stems, this vase radiates warmth and spontaneity. Its bold, expressive surface captures the essence of raku: beauty born of unpredictability.
